I miss those days when I loved being alone,
Away from the chaos, away from the rush,
Living with the serenity of my soul.
But now, I am scared to be alone.
My company isn’t jovial anymore.
For it keeps giving me reminiscences.
Indulging in old memoirs is my habit now.
It has snatched away the peace of my mind,
The serenity of my soul.
I am engulfed badly by my past.
O, I miss those days when I loved being alone!
That was not how being alone felt.
When you have it all, you still lack something.
When you want to flee away, you are held back by demons in your head.
When you are tired of the mayhem within.
When you want to be heard, you are left alone in your solitude.
When you are in the phase of making a choice, choose one and lose the other.
That is when you are lonely.
That is when you start hating being alone.
That is when melancholy takes over every cluster of happiness.
That is when you are me.

In this busy world,
Where you don’t have time for yourself,
You hear the sudden patter of the rain
And it gives you the sudden realisation of the pain…
The pain you once lived in,
The pain you once felt,
And you never want to feel it again.
Rain, it flooded the memories of my brain
And made me realise how strong I became.

In Class 10’s whirlwind, we find our stride,
Struggling through books, with dreams to ride.
Each day a challenge, but joy in our heart,
As we compete with life, we’ll play our part.

Homework and exams, a daily affair,
Yet friendships and laughter, always to share.
In this journey of youth, we strive to excel,
For in these moments, our stories we tell.

Through ups and downs, we learn and grow,
The path may be tough, but our spirits aglow.
Class 10, a chapter in our life’s grand scheme,
We’ll cherish the memories, like a cherished dream.

Must you seek music? https://theteenagertoday.com/must-you-seek-music/ Mon, 10 Jun 2024 10:06:37 +0000 https://theteenagertoday.com/?p=28930 Studies show that if you listen to music you enjoy, while getting your heart rate up, you can achieve more with less effort.

Every heart has a song
Every soul, a melody
A yearning so long
To find true serenity.
And one fine day
After the longest wait
Comes knocking along
An Angel with a harp
Turning their lives
Into a beautiful song.

The word ‘music’ originates from the Greek term Mousikē, which also includes drama, dance and poetry. Singing has been scientifically proven to soothe and raise your mood. However, singing in a group is even more beneficial because it releases hormones like oxytocin that make you feel good and also reduces stress hormones like cortisol.

Dopamine being the key, studies show that if you listen to music you enjoy, while getting your heart rate up, you can achieve more with less effort. The pain sensitivity can decrease in the aftermath of exercising with music, so when you’re done, you may not feel as exhausted as you would have otherwise. Listening to music before you do something can put you in the right frame of mind for the task at hand.

Listening to 5-10 songs daily helps improve memory and strength and boosts the immune system by 80%. Song lyrics are believed to have a stronger impact on human minds when an individual is sad. Though it can affect your mood, it turns out that it can also have a significant effect on your perception of the world. That is why the type of music you listen to plays a vital role in how you feel, what kind of thoughts you invite and your response to the situations around you!

Do you ever find your younger self
Preserved in the pages of a book?
Tucked in carefully,
Like pressed-in petals,
Hidden by pages read,
Forgotten,
Until you revisit.

In the dance of life, a cherished bond,
Friendship’s melody, forever fond.
Through joys and tears, hand in hand,
In the garden of trust, they firmly stand.

Through trials and triumphs, side by side,
With unwavering support, we stride.
In the canvas of life, colours blend
The guiding light, like a shining star.

Through distance and time, our souls align,
Bound by friendship’s sacred sign.
In the tapestry of memories, woven strong,
Forever enduring wherever we belong.

Life is like a flowing river https://theteenagertoday.com/life-is-like-a-flowing-river/ Mon, 24 Apr 2023 10:46:50 +0000 https://theteenagertoday.com/?p=24963 Whenever I think of it, the first thing that comes to my mind is the river with water always flowing.

Isn’t life similar to the flowing water in the river? During my childhood days, I was a relatively emotional kid. At all my emotional moments. I was told one thing repeatedly, and that was: “not to worry”, “not to overthink”, and the very common phrase “life goes on”. It might not be today, but someday things will fall in place. Things will be normal but actually it will be better.

Memories are like food for the heart. Let the hard memories remind you of how you made yourself a warrior by fighting with all the demons inside out, and how you created a stronger version of yourself.

Whenever I think of it, the first thing that comes to my mind is the river with water always flowing. That made me realize how similar our life is to it. Like the water on the river bed which never remains steady, the river is always old but the water is new. It keeps flowing without taking a single break even for a micro second; it flows, flows and repeats. Similarly, our life. Life never takes a break at any moment. No matter what emotion we are going through — sadness, happiness, pain, joy, sorrow, fear, anger — every emotion will last for a certain period.

You may wonder, what can be done when nothing lies in our hands, when nothing is in our control? One thing can be done, and that is to recollect the footprints of life — what life has given and what life will give. Memories are like food for the heart. Let the hard memories remind you of how you made yourself a warrior by fighting with all the demons inside out, and how you created a stronger version of yourself. Let the good ones remind you of how grateful you should be for everything that life has gifted you, and be thankful for fulfilling all your said and unsaid prayers. Because at the end, we all go carrying an empty basket filled with nothing but memories.

They’ve not left you! https://theteenagertoday.com/theyve-not-left-you/ Wed, 08 Jun 2022 05:03:30 +0000 https://theteenagertoday.com/?p=22435 How terrible is the finality of death especially when it’s a member of your family you were close to!

Hand holding pale green butterfly

This morning the first piece of news was from a classmate telling me, “He’s gone, Bob!”

“Who?” I asked.

“My brother!” she said. “I’m now on a plane, on the way to attend his funeral!”

How terrible is the finality of death especially when it’s a member of your family you were close to!

But today I shall not try to philosophize about death, but make an attempt to give words of comfort to those who have wept over the body of a loved one, because what moves into us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch.

We may not understand why that loved one left this earth so soon, or why he or she left before we were ready to say goodbye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that they died, but that they lived.

A part of me was left behind,
As I left those lanes of memories.
From kindergarten
To completing school,
Everything past stood.
The clouds looked cotton pink,
And seasons changed with every blink.

To my fancy, a day came,
When I was asked to find another lane.
For life to continue and run well,
Everything required a change.

So I left for a new place,
With not a very merry face.
To create memories unfound,
In the lanes of another town.

How could a tiny ruptured wooden box do justice to half a century’s worth of memories?
Yet, within the dimensions of that precious little chest,
Countless memories and infinite recollections lay buried and repressed.
Monochrome photos stuck on yellowed pages,
Of families and loved ones promised to be cherished forever,
Yet lost along the passage of ages.
Wooden dolls once held dear and subject to innocent admiration,
Now cast away, bearing lost limbs, on the verge of devastation.
Delicate copper-plated bracelets and a fading cameo ring,
Knotted to the heart by love, loss and a plethora of similar strings.
Rings may rust,
Photographs will fade,
However, what will never be forgotten, are the beautiful memories made.
The reel of our minds forever holds,
A recollection of moments and memories,
As precious, and resistant to corrosion as pure, shining gold.
