They ask me why I am so quiet,
But that’s what a person does when her words are not heard.
What kind of world is this?
Now when I am numb,
My silence bothers everyone.
Yet when I shattered,
The echo of my breaking was paid no heed to.
I screamed and screamed but was ignored.
And those who heard
Gave me looks like I was speaking an alien language.
What’s so strange about being in pieces?
I don’t see anybody as a whole.
Yet also the fact
That I hear nobody scream.
Maybe that’s why we feel lonely,
Because we all think we screamed for help,
But it was merely a whisper
Addressed to a particular nobody.

Silence https://theteenagertoday.com/silence/ Wed, 05 Jun 2019 10:47:33 +0000 http://theteenagertoday.com/?p=13557 I define it as a wordless struggle,
Which helps avoid worthless trouble.
A moment of silence is all we need,
To assess what to pay heed.

I define it as a wordless struggle,
Which helps avoid worthless trouble.
A moment of silence is all we need
To assess what to pay heed.

In silence, you’ll meet the one,
Who knows you better than anyone.
The one who looks in the mirror like you,
It is in silence you’ll find the true you.

Silence speaks when words fail,
Silence lives when you lay pale,
Silence listens when ears get too old,
Silence judges how your ideals hold.

Silence, an essence of life,
Broken with the first words of strife;
And peacefully when we shall lay,
Only silence shall surround us that day!

Man sitting on a misty mountaintop

“Real silence is the cessation of talking — of both the mouth and of the mind. This is not the kind of silence that oppresses us. It is a very elegant kind of silence, a very powerful kind of silence. It is the silence that heals and nourishes us.”

~ THICH NHAT HANH

The screams of silence https://theteenagertoday.com/screams-of-silence/ Wed, 10 Feb 2016 10:10:00 +0000 http://theteenagertoday.com/?p=2337 A silence so loud, that you could almost hear the screams and shouts.

Ever visited a storm-stricken place? A place that faced a huge storm just a few days ago or so. There is a profound silence there, isn’t there? Silence full of pain. The kind of silence that deafens you. A silence so loud, that you could almost hear the screams and shouts. And that’s why it’s said, the only thing worse than a storm is the silence that follows it. You look around and you see what damage it created. The broken houses, the dead bodies of people who were too young to die. As you walk by, you can hear the screams of those people, full of pain, begging the gods above to have mercy; the cry of a little girl who just lost her whole family, the tears of the young boy looking at his dead sister. But you know which one was the worst? The worst was the expressionless woman on her knees, not uttering a word. But her silence held so much pain, you could just feel it. Her expressionless face said so much, her dried tears said so much, her eyes said so much. The air is filled with a cursed feeling, the kind that makes you feel sick. And these storms, they are unpredictable just like the storms that life throws our way.

We all have that one devastating storm in our lives. The worst one. The one that still haunts us to this day. The one that made us go numb. That made us fall on our knees, weak as ever.

We all have that one devastating storm in our lives. The worst one. The one that still haunts us to this day. The one that made us go numb. That made us fall on our knees, weak as ever. Its impact was so bad that our brains just didn’t know how to react and so, we sit there, not uttering a word, trying to digest what just happened. But you know what the worst part is? You’ll never figure it out. That storm will be a mystery though the scientists will have a hundred possible explanations for it and you’ll carry that nightmare forever, remembering each moment. You will get up and continue walking. The storm will pass, new infrastructures will take the place of the old scrap, but what will remain is the memory of the screams of silence.

Hiding my secrets and their realm,
This automated and sustained veil
Has been silent for ages.
Now sensing all questioning gazes
It wishes to be heard;
Yes, my silence too has words.
It can no longer stand
Any fake helping hand
In return that mocks,
Comments, laughs and talks
About the internal struggle
That holds me in its cuddle.
To speak, is now its turn;
No longer can it bear that eager burn.
It wants to let out my secrets and their realm;
My silence is yearning to scream.
