Thank you, Mom! Thank you, Dad!
Three small words.
So much to add.
For all your love
And your support
A million words
Would be too less.
The words “I love you”
Seem too few
To express the love
I have for you.

Times Now, NDTV, The Indian Express, among other channels, had shared a video of Argentine footballer Lionel Messi hugging his mother after Argentina won the 2022 FIFA World Cup on 18 December. Later on, in an interview, Messi acknowledged that the person behind all his success was his mother and her many sacrifices she had made to support him in his football career.

The month of May brings happy memories of our dear Mom, as we celebrate Mother’s Day on 14 May this year. A mother is one of the most prized creations of God and she is the most cherished gift of God to humankind. There is no treasure like the gift of a mother’s love on this earth and there is no heart so full of attentive love and care as that of a mother. I always remember very vividly how my own mother ran with lightning speed and jumped into the water when I told her that my younger brother had fallen in a pond and was drowning!

The story of the mother of Thomas Alva Edison has touched millions. After his mother’s death, Edison found a letter in her diary. It was a letter written by his primary class teacher to his mother when he was a young boy. In the letter, the teacher had written that her son was dumb with a very low IQ. But his mother had concealed this message and instead had told Thomas that the content of the letter was that he was a super-intelligent boy and that he should be educated separately at home. He believed his mother’s words and turned out to be one of the greatest scientists the world has ever seen.

We all will have many great stories to narrate about our beloved mothers, how they have played the most significant role in the development of our personality, character, our habits and our career. The first months of our existence revolved around this amazing person. There is no one who can understand us better than our own mother. Even when we were tiny tots, she understood our needs. We learned to love and trust others from the love and trust we received from our mother in our initial years. She has been our first teacher and role model who has always wanted us to be happy and successful in life.

Today, maybe we regret that we did not thank her enough or appreciate this singular precious gift — our mothers. Unfortunately in this age of consumerism and use-and-throw culture, there is a tendency to disregard and forget all that a mother has been to us. We need not wait for Mother’s Day to wish her and thank her for all that she is and all that she has been doing in our life. Everyday should be a day to appreciate her and love her through our words and deeds, and let it be a Mother’s Day celebration and tell them, “Love You, Mom!”

Motherhood: The Job Paid with Love https://theteenagertoday.com/motherhood-the-job-paid-with-love/ Sat, 13 May 2023 06:17:29 +0000 https://theteenagertoday.com/?p=25008 There are no words in this world that can describe exactly what motherhood is. Mom, Maa, Amma, Umma… no matter in what language you say it, when we hear these words, only one person comes to our mind, the lovely and most admired human in the whole world — our Mother. We all know that the only job, which no one appreciates or gives any importance to, or we can say the job that is unpaid with no holidays, is MOTHERHOOD.

From the day we came into this world till her last breath, she will be there with us at all costs, even sacrificing her sleep, her skills, her health, adjusting herself so that her children can have the best moment of their life. Making a house is an effort of a few months, but turning it into a home takes a lifetime, and our house only becomes a home when our mother is there.

There are no words or article in this world that can describe exactly what motherhood is. Even great poets have tried to express that emotion. To understand that you have to be in that place. As you are reading this, I want you to take a moment and give a tight hug to your loving mom for all the moments she has stood by you.

I feel my mother is partial https://theteenagertoday.com/i-feel-my-mother-is-partial/ Mon, 01 Mar 2021 05:00:00 +0000 http://theteenagertoday.com/?p=19525 My mother is very partial; she always scolds me for my mistakes but says nothing if my sister makes similar mistakes.

I am a 14-year-old girl studying in Std IX. I have an elder brother and sister. My mother is very partial; she always scolds me for my mistakes but says nothing if my sister makes similar mistakes. My brother beats me but my mother never intervenes. I suffer a lot due to this. My father is very busy with his business and I cannot bear to see him worried, so I never tell him about it. What I should do?
Shelley

Dear Shelley,

Do speak to your mother, and share your feelings with her. Seek her help to see what can be done to change things and ask her what she expects of you. Before that, reflect on what are the ‘mistakes’ she scolds you for. If you view ‘mistakes’ as ‘events’ to learn from, you can change the way you do things. This will not only make your mother happy, but also contribute to your personality and future success.

Make friends with your parents, even if you have some fights. Find out what your mother likes and enjoys… and see if you can do common things together. Offer to help her at home. Often when parents worry, they forget to have fun, so, with your siblings, try and create a family fun hour once a week.

As for your brother, make sure whether he is being playful or angry. The next time he comes to hit you, in firm voice say, ‘Stop. I don’t appreciate you hitting me.’ Ask him to move back and keep a safe distance, or you step back/walk off. Repeat this till he gets the message. If he is being angry or violent, it is important to ask your parents to intervene.

I have just done my 12th boards and searching for good colleges out of our town. I live in a small town, where there are no good colleges. Ours is a nuclear family, no siblings and my mother has a severe eyesight problem. I am worried how she will manage things alone. I don’t have distance college options, either.
Khushi

Dear Khushi,

You are faced with a very challenging situation. Since you have not given much background information, here are some questions to help you decide:

Whether to take your mother along or not: If you leave home, will your mother be completely alone? What are the tasks that she can manage on her own? What kind of tasks does your mother need help in? If there is no one at home, and she is dependent, you will have to take her along, or hire someone to look after her.

Distance or regular learning: What course of study/career do you wish to pursue? If it is the Science stream, then you need to attend college. If not, look for an Open University — IGNOU is the best. Admissions can be done online and study material too is sent online. Even if the Study/Examination Centre is a bit far, you only need to travel to give your exams twice a year. Check the website: ignou.ac.in (for information) and ignouonline.ac.in (for admissions). You can download the IGNOU mobile app for study material.

Finances: You will have to spend money on your education and on hostel fees. If your mother accompanies you, you will have to pay rent instead. Is that feasible for you? If you have relatives in other towns/cities, is it possible to move there so your mother can be taken care of while you attend college? Is it financially viable to hire a full-time help/maid to stay with your mother?

These questions may help you decide on a practical course of action.

The lord cannot come in his own manifestation.
So he created a person to come for the child.
That person is a MOTHER!
Magnificent but never tells, outstanding but never knows,
Thankful but never asks for thanks,
Honourable, but is never honoured,
Extraordinary, but never realises it,
Reliable, so we share our deepest ‘secrets’ with her!
Thanks for tolerating everything I do.
No one can take your place in my heart.
Love you mom! Thanks for everything!

I have a habit of your touch.
I can’t live without you.
That the whole world knows.
You cook food for me.
Which is very tasty.
You prepare me for my exams.
For that I want to give you thanks.

My happiness starts from you,
My sadness comes to you.
First word, first shine, first love my mom,
First school, first teacher, first friend my mom,
Since the day I was small,
Till the day I became tall.
Since I began understanding things,
Till I had my own wings.
Your love has never fallen short,
My tears appeared when I was hurt.
You also became sad and fought,
With the one who made me so.
You have been my only support,
I want to hold you tight and hug you.
And just want to say ‘thank you,’
As you are the whole world for me.
In the end, I would like to say that:
Always love your mother,
Because you will never get another.

She was keeping me safe, even before my heart was moulded
Though I wasn’t born yet, keeping me secure was her utmost priority.
All the sleepless nights she sacrificed for me seem impossible to pay off.
Illness in my childhood days became one of her worst nightmares.
For her, stress was defined as my half-done homework.
Her voice was the only thing I woke up to.
When I cried, her heart hurt; when I fell, she felt my pain.
She became my strength when I was at my weakest.
The time came when I was turning into a woman, and she was the one who taught me how to.
Words seem little to express what she is to me,
But I just want to be with her from my foremost sigh till my last.

My mother likes my sister more than me. My sister is better in studies than me and so my mother thinks that I am jealous of my sister. But I love my sister. My mother always shouts at me for any problem. I am the elder child in the family. I don’t have any hatred towards my sister. How can I make my mother understand this?
Hilu (18)

Dear Hilu,

It sounds like you feel very upset that your mother mistakenly thinks that you are jealous of your sister and are quite convinced that your mother likes her more than she likes you.

I’m not sure what problems your mother shouts at you for… but it would be good to reflect on why she does so. Is she taking out her frustrations on you? Or are you really making her angry? Is your relationship with your sister a truly loving one?

How good is your relationship with your mother? What are the things that you and your mother share in common? How are you both different from each other? What is good in your relationship and what isn’t? What does your mother expect from you as a daughter? What are the things that you can bond over, such as cooking, fashion, television programmes and so on?

Instead of trying to convince your mother that you don’t hate your sister, reach out and build a strong relationship with both of them, and your mother will automatically be convinced.
