It was two months ago in America, I opened the top drawer where I’m sure my daughter had said the mugs were kept, but a packet of coffee powder stared back at me, or was it chilli powder? But they don’t keep chilli powder on shelves in America, do they? Let it be, I told myself, not ready to solve the coffee and chilli powder problem right now. So, I opened the drawer below, and nearly had forks, spoons and all the rest of the cutlery fall on my toes! I quickly closed the drawer on those murderous weapons and looked into the shelves on top.

I remember my thoughts and what followed: Where’s my coffee mug?

Well, it’s not mine. Nothing is mine here; it’s not my home. My home is ten thousand miles away or somewhere near ten thousand, where my green coffee mug hangs neatly in its place, washed and wiped and wedged in its familiar setting with nobody else going to move it from there.

Discovering yourself https://theteenagertoday.com/discovering-yourself/ Tue, 25 Apr 2017 06:24:19 +0000 http://theteenagertoday.com/?p=7872 The greatest adventure that lies before us is to discover ourselves, who we are, what we want and what we love.

Have you ever plunged into the depths of the pretty blue sky above you?

Have you ever searched deep inside your heart for the thing it yearns for?

Have you ever loved yourself and let your spirit give you condolence in your darkest hours?

Have you ever had your best conversation with the beautiful person you see in the mirror?

Have you discovered yourself?

Stuck in this eternal race for perfection, we have lost our true selves somewhere, buried under layers of hatred or abandoned due to ugly criticism or crushed under the feet of society which hates uniqueness.

It is there longing to shine, to behold itself on the highest star. In satisfying the hunger of society we have starved the desires of our heart, lost ourselves, lost our unique identity.

It’s not the same person whom we used to see long ago in our reflections, it’s not the same bright clear dreaming eyes that used to be, it’s not the same smile that used to cross our lips; everything in this materialistic world has gradually turned the same.

In the words of Thomas A. Edison, “If we did all the things we are capable of, we would literally astound ourselves.”

The greatest adventure that lies before us is to discover ourselves, who we are, what we want and what we love. We need to nourish our hearts. We need to look deep into the eyes of the person in the mirror and try to heal our worn-out souls with bandages of love and belief.

We need to listen to our heart, believe it, talk to it, befriend it and find what we are born for. The world will soon be presented with a new being, a new sun that wants its light to reach each and every corner of the earth, a new bud which wants to spread its petals to the utmost and acquaint people with God’s grace, a new eagle which wants to take the highest flight and discover the sunshine above the stormy clouds.

The cocoon will finally break open with a new emerging butterfly.
