In the world of literature, young talents often spring up as a breath of fresh air, redefining the art of storytelling through their unique perspectives. Abhijita Gupta is one such prodigious talent who has captivated the hearts and minds of readers with her evocative and insightful poems and moral stories.

Recognized by the International Book of Records, she became a published author at the tender age of seven and has been acknowledged as the youngest author to write a non-fiction book on the pandemic by the UK’s World Book of Records. She has also been awarded the title ‘Grandmaster of Writing’ by the Asia Book of Records for her poetry and prose-writing prowess and has won many medals and certificates along the way.

This 10-year-old child prodigy is a student at Ghaziabad’s Presidium School, Indirapuram, and started writing short stories at the age of five. One fine day, she requested her mother to lend her a book and a pencil to capture her thoughts. Her mother asked her if she could write as she would barely know a few words, but she was determined, wording “I want to write!” Her family was amazed by her very first write-up itself, with only two spelling mistakes, and the way it was structured. They assured her it was correct, thence sowing the seed of self-esteem and confidence within a young soul.

I am a 12th grader. I love writing and am able to write something original. But what if writing or journalism isn’t for me? What should I do? I am trying to find my interest. I need some tips and suggestions.
Meenakshi / Carmel, Kerala

If you like writing, and it comes to you without much effort, then that is a clear indication that you’re really interested in it. In this field, personal qualities rather than training are more important for becoming a good journalist. Good writing skills, resourcefulness, an inquiring and communicative nature, are essential.
There are two ways to pursue this field: after 10+2 (any stream), you can join a Bachelor’s course in Mass Communication in which journalism is also taught. Or you can join a PG diploma course in Journalism after graduation (any stream).

Hand writing a quotationu using calligraphy

“Calligraphy is the most intimate, personal, spontaneous form of expression. Like a fingerprint or a voice, it is unique for each person.”
~ Hermann Zapf

Calligraphy is the art of beautiful handwriting — elegant and stylized. The term ‘calligraphy’ is derived from the Greek words kallos (beauty) and graphein (to write). It is an ancient writing technique using flat-edged pens to create artistic lettering using thick and thin lines depending on the direction of the stroke. In this artistic style of writing, one can form beautiful symbols by hand and arrange them well. It’s a set of skills and techniques for positioning and inscribing words.

Also known as fancy penmanship, calligraphy requires highly decorative handwriting. Before the invention of the printing press, calligraphy fonts were used to bring charm and elegance to any handcrafted project. Although Europe had entered the age of printing in the 16th and 17th centuries, calligraphy continued to flourish. Over the years, though this art of fancy writing had been diminishing, it is slowly making a comeback.

Calligraphy is really enjoyable and one should surely consider this as a hobby to spice up one’s life. It can be relaxing, fulfilling and rewarding. Many teenagers like a creative pastime and calligraphy is one of the ideal ways to spend time creatively.

Calligraphy is a great hobby for all those who already have beautiful handwriting and also for those who want to improve their handwriting.
