We are eagerly waiting for the Covid-19 episode to get over and return to normalcy. Or is this going to be the new normal? Coronavirus, in one way or the other, is entwined with the element of air. Now masked noses are the most common sights covering up some hidden airborne insights.

Be free of prejudices and biases, as the air.

The air does not know what prejudice is. It is least bothered about the size, the shape, the colour of the noses. It respects all varieties of noses. It happily journeys inside every type of nose, male and female alike, belonging to a Hindu, a Muslim, a Sikh, a Tribal or a Christian nose. For the air, a nose is a nose is a nose. And the air it sends to every nose is fresh and pure. It has been like that from the time air was. It behaves like God who too transcends all religions. You shouldn’t be surprised to know that such a freeing and all-embracing attitude will enhance the quality of your immunity to fight viruses.

Turn wherever you will, nature is there. God our Creator has imprinted in the book of nature an eternal law of acceptance which gets clarified as you read this article. A non-accepting mind creates havoc within oneself and in others. Take time to understand the language of nature and flow with the law of acceptance.

1. Accept life as space does it

We imagine that space is somewhere up in the sky. The truth is space is everywhere, outside of you and inside of you. No matter what you do or where you go, there is no way you can get outside of space and shake it off from you. It sticks on to you all the time like an invisible live membrane. You may be asleep or awake; sit, walk or run; cycle, be in a car, a train or a plane; be in a boat or a ship, you are always enveloped by and in space.

You may try to destroy the space, abuse or pollute it; it keeps on accepting you always and in the same way. The space is not interested to know whether you belong to any religion, caste, creed or culture. It’s non-judgemental. Its approach and attitude is the same with anyone and everyone, women, men and children; animals, birds, fish, trees; all living and inanimate beings. The silent language of space is one of acceptance, eternal acceptance of you as you are. Without it, you and I drop dead. In very ancient times, sages called space, spirit. This invisible sack of space that carries us around all the time, keeps on reminding us that we are inside a cosmic womb, till death will take us beyond to divine space. That physical, ever-enveloping thin reality, space, presence, power or energy has an eternal message for you: “Flow with the law of acceptance”.

2. Accept life as air does it…

Air gives us a sense of movement which space doesn’t. It never stands still; follows us where-ever we go. If it doesn’t, you wouldn’t be there to read this, nor me to write this. Whatever be the situation you are in, the mood you are engulfed in, the behaviour you engage in, whether you pass on blessings of love or curses of hatred, air keeps on giving us the best; it has the oxygen of acceptance and keeps you alive. It is least interested to know if your nose and nostrils belong to any particular religion, cast, creed or culture. Its approach and attitude is the same if the one who breathes it in, is a woman, a man or a child, an elephant or a whale or a frog. You will be dead if it chooses to be absent from you for more than 15 minutes. The Creator of air and the nostrils, decided to keep your nostrils ever open, even while you are asleep. We want to be aware of that surrounding presence, power or energy like an ever-alive invisible oxygen cylinder kept as close as life can be, till the day we stop breathing. That physical thin, invisible reality, always moving towards you, into you and within you has an eternal message for you: “Flow with the law of acceptance”.

If I ask any one of you, what is the one thing that you ultimately want in life, I take it for granted that your answer is going to be, happiness. Don’t be surprised, the same question will be answered in the same way by the elders too, including senior citizens all over the world. If you have any other answers, it would seem that the question had not yet reached the heart, the natural storehouse of happiness. The key to open the door of the store is love, and you are given total freedom to deal with it as you like.

The frequency, intensity and duration of happiness depend on the quality and the measure of love you have stockpiled in your heart. Hearts are more or less similar in size. A human heart is often compared to the size of a fist and a cow’s heart has the size of a human head. Poor cow! Size does not matter when it comes to love and happiness. Even a dog’s heart, biggest among the animals in its proportion to its size, cannot generate love, so no real happiness is possible for dogs either, except ‘puppy love’. If the heart centre is awake and aglow, it soaks up the entire being into loving — becomes self-love; self in the embrace of love. When that becomes true, happiness is guaranteed. Size does not matter, quality does. Some fist-sized hearts can contain an ocean of love. Some others may be ponds of it. Some may even be drying up…

The heart does not know how not to love, it is learned on the way. Heart, because its objective is love, wants relationships not divisions. To create divisions, the mind has to advise, to coax and to compel the heart to produce something that it does not want — hatred. If you hate anyone in the world, the psychological X-ray shows that there is hatred, a virus in your heart. It does not matter towards whom your anger is directed, you become the first culprit and begin to punish yourself although your wish is that someone else gets harmed. You are then one virus-affected.

Your hatred could be towards the people in your family, in the office, in school, a political party, towards another religion, another country, persons of different colours, races and so on, but the truth is that your heart is carrying a harmful virus, unmasked. Hatred is a killer virus. A happiness eraser. Being what it is, if there is more hatred than love in someone, that person can be tempted to take his/her life.

An aggressive person can choose to choke others to death. If there is more hatred in a family than love, that family will gradually collapse. If there is more hatred in the universe than love, it will begin to disintegrate. Has the Corona virus appeared like an angel, warning us all once again to produce the vaccines of love in our hearts, urgently and in abundance and distribute it all over? A heartless universe with all heads will have a heart failure!

Take a few minutes daily to silently love and befriend your heart and to follow its counsels. Every happy person has got to be a heart person. The genius in the maker of the heart is seen in the way you are going to work with it. It’s all on you. If you have love, you are going to receive more than what you had. If you don’t have, (let me use an expression from Jesus) “even what you have will be taken away from you”. The heart has only one gentle command: keep loving! The rest will be done to us. The neurotransmitters of love almost simultaneously turn on all happiness hormones fitted in the brain. Along with the heart and the head, the hands will effortlessly join in and sing, “If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands!” You will be rewarded with one more ‘h’ word, health, along with head, heart and hands.

Some illness-wellness thoughts

  1. The heart does not attack; that would be self-destruction. Our emotional stress does. Give it what it needs, the amino acid of love. And you will be healthy and happy.
  2. The brain does not strike. Our binge thinking does. Cultivate mental calmness and insure your life in God’s hands. And you will be healthy and happy.
  3. The cancer does not kill, we store up dead cells that decay and die. Breathe out guilt, shame and non-acceptance, breathe in self-love. And you will be healthy and happy.
  4. Diabetes does not affect your sugar levels; we squeeze out sweetness from our life. Stop searching for the flavour of ego or the sourness of low self-esteem. Sweeten your life with the gift of true self. And you will be healthy and happy.
  5. Gastroenteritis does not make our stomach swell up; we inflame it with gassy exaggerations and remain too choosy to accommodate others’ views. Empty yourself of past accumulations. Fill your belly with the proteins of positivity. And you will be healthy and happy.
  6. Constipation does not glue up our bowels, we fill our stomachs with miserly and tight-fisted ideas that do not digest. Give generously and receive aplenty. And you will be healthy and happy.
  7. Body does not cause aches; we fail to value and give time for our bodies. Give it gentle conscious care not forcibly but attentively and regularly. And you will be healthy and happy.
  8. Asthma does not suffocate us, our feelings of being unwanted chokes our lungs. Breathe in the fresh air of your goodness, acceptance and love till your lungs and body know it and accept it. And you will be healthy and happy.
  9. The head does not create aches; we overburden our heads for some hidden benefits, don’t try to prove to the world you can. Just be you. Give the head time to relax into wellness. And you will be healthy and happy.
  10. The skin does not cause psoriasis; we do not believe we were tangibly loved the way we deserve, massage your skin with the oil of self-acceptance and love. And you will be healthy and happy.
  11. The blood does not increase or decrease its pressure; our tensions force them to follow our commands. Give the mind the chance to relax and catch up with the messages of the heart. You will surely be healthy and happy!

Young woman meditating on wooden platform

Body knows only to do what is good for the body.
Mind knows only to do what is good for the mind.
However, what mind considers as good is most often not good for the body.

The mind is the culprit for practically almost all diseases, other than those that come from food, water and air. External causes amount to only about 10 per cent of all diseases. The Coronavirus is an outside invader.

Make it hard for the ‘invader’ to conquer your internal defence system

Do whatever you can to stay mentally calm. If you are looking for bodily healing, reduce your mental speed to 8-12 cycles per second, known as ‘alpha pace’. (Meditations are the best I know so far to achieve that speed.) So, the mind will stop interfering with bodily intelligence. The body becomes free to activate the self-healing system that is inbuilt into our biological system. Healing is a passive activity; we do not actively heal anyone or ourselves. Healing happens. It is done to us without even asking for it. That’s the way our bodies are wired.

4 techniques to strengthen your immune system

Left thumb marked in red to denote pressure point for pituitary gland activation

1. Activating the pituitary gland
Pay attention to the ‘master gland’ known as the pituitary gland, fitted in the brain. Since you have no way of getting inside your brain, you can do a simple and easy exercise to activate both the pituitary and pineal glands. How? In the illustration, the portion of the thumb marked in red connects to your brain. Whatever you do there affects the brain.

a. Keep pressing the left thumb with the right thumb and the index finger of the right hand, holding it to the right and left side of the left thumb. Keep on pressing it hard for 60 seconds; keep a mental count of one to sixty. Then do the same with the right thumb with the left thumb and the index finger for 60 seconds.

b. Hold both the thumbs together facing each other; use the index and midfingers, let us say first of the right hand and press with them the back of the left thumb hard for 60 seconds while the right thumb is pressing the front portion of the left thumb (the frontal lobe of the brain). Exchange the hands; give the right thumb a chance now; another 60 seconds.

While doing this you are activating both the pituitary and pineal glands and the entire brain. The master gland wakes up all others (particularly the Thymus gland) into action for self-protection and they get ready to fight the aggressor. (2 minutes)

2. Activating the thymus gland
You can see the thymus gland in the picture. Use your index, mid and ring fingertips together to tap/thump the left and the right side of thymus gland 1 minute each, three times a day. Thymosin, produced by the thymus gland, will start fighting antibodies and strengthen the immune system. This is the most important gland to fight viruses. (2 minutes)

Hands showing the prana mudra gesture

3. Prana Mudra (Energy-enhancing hand gesture)
This is a gesture recommended by the Mudra Shastra (science of hand gestures) to enhance our immune system, to activate vital energy and fight allergies. You do not have to press the fingers together; they need to be in touch with each other. You may hold this position, the way you see it in the illustration, for 45 minutes, if possible. You can keep holding them while watching a movie or while having a stroll, etc. The three fingers bring together three elemental energies of fire, earth and water together.

4. Pranayama (Science of breathing)
One of the sad life-realities is that very few of us breathe properly; once again the culprit is the mind. We need to breathe in the way the lungs were originally designed for. Whatever the method you have learnt; do it for 15-20 minutes, twice a day. The more oxygen you supply to your lungs, the merrier they will be! With poor lung capacity, you are prone to asthma, allergies, pneumonia, etc. Breathe well and you will be well.

If you are interested, you may check out the videos on the YouTube channel of Dhyan Kutir, Andheri (E), Mumbai, showing two different types of breathing and some simple exercises to rid yourself of negative energy.

The Coronavirus is inviting us to take quality time for ourselves. Remain calm. Keep on blessing the universe; allow blessings to flow towards you and into you!
